Black Widow not appearing in Iron Man 3, could get own movie

Fans of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow from Iron Man 2 and The Avengers might not be getting another dose for a while.

In an interview with Screenrant, Johansson said that she would not be making an appearance as the red-haired, ass-kicking spy in Iron Man 3. The character was prominently featured in Iron Man 2, where she assisted Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury against evil Russians and insidious corporate goons.

Despite another major role in The Avengers, Johansson won’t have to don her character’s skintight black combat suit when Iron Man 3 begins shooting in May. She did, however, tease at a possible film centered on Black Widow.

“I personally think there’s an awesome Black Widow movie in there,” Johansson told Screenrant, suggesting a “kind of Borne-type movie that could take the whole comic genre in a different direction.” That direction, of course, being Johansson’s visage adorning millions more posters, toys, and lunchboxes. Not that many would object to that.

The Avengers, which sees Johansson share screen time with Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, opens May 4.
